Community
Because we believe in contributing to our local community, in 2004 Study Abroad Italy built and opened a school in our local town in Sonoma County, through which we can share our Italy with others. The school is VIVA, an Italian culinary, wine and cultural center offering short (one to three day) courses to the public. At VIVA, SAI brings professors and experts from our programs abroad to teach what they know best. For example, we offer cooking classes with chef/professors from Apicius in Florence, Italian Language courses, and a variety of Italian related subjects from Food Photography to the History of the Mafia. VIVA is supported and underwritten by Study Abroad Italy because we enjoy offering this to our neighbors.
VIVA offers a free Italian Movie Night on the first Friday of every month, including a variety of light meals and Italian wine for sale. Movie night has become a popular event in our town, bringing together Italophiles and helping to create community. VIVA is also a venue for annual Film Festivals held in Sonoma County.
If you find yourself planning a visit to California Wine Country, drop by VIVA to say hello, or join us for one of our exciting (and delicious) course offerings.
