Free Elective

Program Description:

The Free Elective program is created for students wishing to design their own curriculum from a broad selection of Apicius courses. Students may select courses from the Class Schedule, found in the left links on this page. Semester students may select five courses, of 2 or 3 credits each, for a maximum of 15 semester credits. Italian language is  a required course for Free Elective. Courses offered may vary from Fall to Spring semester, and courses require a minimum number of students to run. All courses are taught in English and there is no language requirement at Apicius. Internships are NOT available to Free-Elective program students.

Full Program includes:

  • 15 weeks in Florence (September-December or January-May)
  • Tuition & US academic credit for up to 15 credit hours of academic course work comparable to your home college
  • Carefully selected living accommodations in clean, pleasant lodgings in the historic center of Florence
  • Academic field trips & excursions including a 3-day excursion
  • Welcome reception and farewell evening
  • Dedicated on-site SAI Program Coordinator in Florence providing personal assistance throughout the semester
  • 24 hour emergency support line
  • Orientation: three day orientation
  • Weekly cultural activities
  • Organized services from application to completion, with friendly, reliable counseling

  • HTH Insurance (including full medical coverage, medical emergency evacuation)

  • Airport pick-up and transportation for Florence Airport arrivals

Not included in the program cost: application fee; security deposit; single room supplement; airfare; meals and personal expenses; books or studio/lab fees; optional excursions offered by SAI or the host school.

Basic Program includes:

Basic Program students may either locate their own housing, or choose SAI apartment housing at an additional cost, however the Basic Program does NOT include SAI onsite student services. Basic Program students will have available the services provided by the host school itself. This program is for an independent student seeking to create their own experience, at a savings. Visa processing service is also available to Basic Program students at a cost of $250.
