PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Study Abroad Italy offers two academic study options (Program Costs can be found here: Fall 2012 & Spring 2013):

1.  Free Elective Program: This program students with the greatest flexibility to choose freely from course offerings and elect courses based on academic needs and  career interests. These courses fulfill  a combination of major, minor, and elective credits for the student, based on academic approval from their home institution. Students may choose 12-15 credits (4 or 5 courses) from any offerings in our Class Schedule. One Italian Language course is required.

2. Liberal Studies Program (previously 6+3): Students enroll in Italian language courses (3 or 6 credits) and lecture-based courses in liberal arts and sciences (9 credits) for a total of 12 or 15 credits depending on the number of credits enrolled for Italian language.  The Liberal Studies program stresses the development of knowledge and cultural values with the integration of theory and practice.  Students may choose courses from all academic departments except:  Digital Imaging and Visual Arts; Fashion, Accessory Studies and Technology; and Fine Arts (studio and applied arts courses).

Please note: Not all courses listed in the course catalog are offered each term.

Applicants may attend one semester or the entire academic year. Free Elective semester students are required to take a 3 credit Italian language course as part of their studies. For details on how to apply, please see our Application page.

SAI Programs include US credits. It is also possible to receive only the Host School Transcript, with a reduction in cost. Please ask your Admissions Counselor  about this option.
