Student Visas
In accordance with Italian law all students studying in Italy for MORE than 90 days are required to obtain a student visa. It is no longer necessary for US students studying for LESS than 90 days to obtain a visa.
SAI provides Student Visa Consutling for all our students. This is included in all our programs.
For most US Italian Consulates, SAI offers an optional Student Visa Processing Service. The fee for this service is $250.00.
Obtaining a student visa may be a timely process therefore the application should be started as early as possible. Upon acceptance into the programs, each student should immediately print the SAI Student Visa Application Guidelines and the appropriate Consulate Visa Application from the links below.
Non US Citizens and students not residing in the US should contact their nearest Italian Consulate and follow their directions for obtaining a student visa. Students may request the necessary documents from our California office.
Students residing in the LOS ANGELES Consulate's jurisdiction must apply directly and in person at the Consulate.
An appointment must be made for this Consulate.
Upon acceptance, contact the Consulate immediately to make your appointment. Your actual appointment date needs to be between 90 and 30 days before the start of your program.
The visa will not be issued the same day so plan accordingly.
SAI will provide the necessary Letter of Acceptance from the Italian Institution, SAI's Letter of Enrollment, and Insurance Letter to complete your student visa application packet.
Students residing or attending school in the BOSTON, CHICAGO, D.C., DETROIT, HOUSTON, MIAMI, NEW YORK, PHILADELPHIA, or SAN FRANCISCO Italian Consulate's jurisdiction may process their student visa application through SAI, using our optional Student Visa Processing Service.
We highly recommend students process through SAI. This will help to avoid multi visits to the Consulates due to incomplete and incorrect visa applications. With SAI processing the student will not have to go to the Consulate in person. If you do decide to apply on your own be aware that SAI may not be able to help or assist if complications occur with the Consulate. Please contact our office to request the necessary official letters to complete your application.

Students residing within the LOS ANGELES Italian Consulate’s jurisdiction:
Each student is responsible for contacting the Consulate in order to obtain accurate information on student visa requirements.. Obtaining a visa is entirely the student's responsibility. An appointment must be made for the Los Angeles Consulates. Appointment slots fill quickly so plan accordingly with regards to your departure date.
