The Sirens of The Eastern Sicilian Coast: Five Week Summer Publishing Program
This unique five week publishing program constitutes a full term of interdisciplinary, cross-cultural study with total immersion in the local cultures of the eastern Sicilian coast and Florence. Students and program leaders travel together as a community of scholars in Sicily seven days a week for two full weeks to collect and research travel photography and writing. Participants return to Florence for a three week academic session to refine the research that will be used to create a travel guide based on cultural exploration through the five senses. By the end of the academic and field experience, students will produce a book which will be published by FUA.
Summer School in the Italian Riviera:
The summer program in the Italian Riviera proposes courses in regular sessions at the suggestive location of the northern Tuscan coast. Seated in Forte dei Marmi, the academic curriculum is designed to offer an interdisciplinary selection of courses that draws upon specific case studies experienced on-site in a highly unique area of Italy, full of particularities for its local culture, cuisine, economies, varied geography, and arts. The program supports sustainable learning, cultural studies, and community immersions. The Italian Riviera located on the northern Tuscan coast is just an hour train ride heading west from Florence. The area holds historic prominence, being one of the first tourist destinations in all of Italy sought out primarily for its seaside position framed by the Apuan Alps. Artists from Michelangelo to Henry Moore drew their inspiration from this stretch of land where the ocean meets the mountains. Its rich geography and culture provides a breathtaking campus location where the communities and cultural lifestyle provide the sources of daily learning. This program is recognized and sustained by the city of Forte dei Marmi.
