PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

Students wishing to study design and art in London during the summer, may choose from three programs.

CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN
Summer I & II: 3 weeks/3 credits

CSM offers two summer terms geared towards beginning art and design students. No portfolio or prior experience is necessary. Students choose from an array of art and design courses. Please see class schedules for a complete list of courses.

LONDON COLLEGE OF FASHION
Summer III: 8 weeks/12 credits

LCF offers two programs during the summer: Fashion design & Merchandising or Footwear Design. Both summer programs include a trip to Paris. 

Fashion Design & Merchandising: This program is a perfect introduction to fashion design and fashion merchandising & communications. It is made up of six units which combine to create one program. The program is most suitable for beginners, includes a fashion & culture field trip to Paris and is composed of the following courses:

  • Product development in the UK
  • Fashion forecasting
  • Fashion marketing in the UK
  • Historical and contemporary fashion research studies
  • Fashion styling
  • The design process

Footwear Design: This program (in conjunction with Cordwainers College) combines traditional design principles with innovation & creativity, an overview of CAD technology & an opportunity to experience the traditional craft of shoemaking. From the start, students will gain a concentrated and superior knowledge of the footwear product, with a strong emphasis on design & inspiration, the use of CAD technology (an introduction to rapid prototyping & foot scanning) & product realization (students will make a basic court shoe). The program is most suitable for beginners, includes a fashion & culture field trip to Paris and is composed of the following courses:

Summer IV: 3 weeks/3 credits

CCAD, CCA and WCA offers one summer term geared towards beginning art and design students. No portfolio or prior experience is necessary. Students choose from an array of art and design courses. Please see class schedules for a complete list of courses.
