Undergraduate Student Housing Information

Study Abroad Italy aims to create a comfortable living environment for each student by providing safe, well-maintained, student-level housing in quality apartments. Our staff will be on hand to greet and help orient you to your new apartment and city, and they will remain available to answer questions and assist with maintenance needs that may arise.

SAI, with our rental agency partners, offers shared student apartments, however students are also free to arrange their own accommodations privately.

Shared student apartments

Students are placed with other SAI students in apartments that are privately owned and located in buildings shared by Italian residents. A typical residence will house 2-6 students, and contains a combination of single (1 student per room) and double (2 students per room) bedrooms and shared kitchen, bathroom and living areas.

Apartments include

  • furnishings
  • basic kitchen supplies
  • bed linens
  • washing machine

Apartments DO NOT include

  • towels
  • land line telephones
  • clothes dryers

Housing Requests

Housing requests are made by submitting a “housing request form” with your application.
Applications are processed when payment of your confirmation deposit has been made to SAI. Single room requests must be accompanied by an additional single room supplement fee of $1000 per semester or $350 per summer (Sicily: $1,000 per summer).

Single room requests are processed when your single supplement fee is received. At this time Single Room Housing is not available in Milan. We are happy to accommodate roommate requests. Roommate requests must be mutual; both you and your roommate must clearly write each other’s name on the housing request form.
SAI student apartments are assigned as single gender housing, (all male or all female). Students seeking male/female shared housing options have two choices: 1) SAI may be able to assign a one-bedroom apartment to a male/female roommate request, however this cannot be guaranteed available or 2) Students should contact our partner rental agencies to arrange a private apartment rental in order to accommodate male/female roommates.

Housing Assignment

Students will receive housing and roommate assignments via email at least one week prior to the start of the term.

Arrival

Students will receive written arrival instructions via email and included in their acceptance packet.
Please plan to arrive on housing move-in day. Apartments will not be available for early check-in. Any students arriving early should make prior arrangements to stay at a local hotel until check-in day.

Master’s Student Housing Information

Housing is not included in the program cost. Students have three options for securing housing in Milan:

  • A studio apartment can usually be independently arranged for about 1000 euros a month plus bills and deposits. We strongly recommend using a housing agency to look for your housing if you wish to arrange it prior to arrivals in order to avoid scams. Please contact the SAI office for recommendations.
  • Contact the Domus Academy Housing Department prior to your departure for assistance in securing your housing. This information will be sent upon acceptance into the program.
  • Secure an SAI apartment for the first 2 weeks of your time in Milan while you look for more permanent accommodations. Contact the SAI office for more information.
