After traveling around Italy, as well as several other countries, I can easily say I am happy with my choice to study in Florence. Florence is such an accessible city you can walk almost anywhere. After traveling to cities where I had to take multiple trains to get to one destination, I definitely appreciate a walkable city. Although I’ve only scratched the surface of this city, I have found some of my favorite spots.

Beach by Oltrarno – Before the summer season ended, there was a great little bar on this beach with a delicious apertivo! I also had a few great opportunities to participate in free yoga classes on this beach. The view on the water by sunset is stunning; definitely a great spot to check out!

La Martinicca – One of the best restaurants I have eaten at in Florence. They are known for their traditional Florentine steak but also have other great options such as pear filled pasta in Gorgonzola sauce!

Aqua Flor – You can smell the great perfumes from down the street. This little perfume shop is located just off of Piazza Santa Croce. They offer many different perfumes as well as some great scented soaps and lotions.

Santa Croce – This is probably my favorite church in Florence. I had the opportunity to attend a mass in one of the chapels and thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautiful church inside and out!

All’Antico Vinaio – Best sandwiches in Florence. You pick what you want on the sandwich, I recommend the porchetta. For 5 euro you can get a HUGE sandwich!

Trattoria Toscanella – A great little restaurant located on the Oltrarno. This place is very affordable. They make wonderful homemade soups and awesome eggplant Parmesan.

Piazza della Signoria – One of my favorite hang-out spots, especially at night. It’s a nice place to get some homework done and watch the people pass by.

Edoardo – One of my favorite gelaterias; located right next to the Duomo. They make fresh waffle cones when you order! (Try the pistacchio!)

The view from Giotto’s Campanile – It’s a long way up but the view is absolutely worth the trip. The top gives the best 360 view of the city and a close up view of the top of the Duomo.

Orti Dipinti– This community garden is located right on my street, Borgo Pinti. It a great place to take a walk and smell the roses. This garden also offers great volunteer opportunites.
