Financing Studies

In addition to SAI Scholarships, for your convenience a list of outside resources that you may pursue to help you finance your study abroad experience is below. We also recommend that you check with your school’s study abroad office and/or financial aid office in addition to the resources listed below.

British Universities Transatlantic Exchange Association (BUTEX)
Available to students studying in London.
Each year BUTEX awards sixteen scholarships to students studying abroad for either a semester or for a whole academic year.Eight scholarships are available to UK students studying abroad in the USA or Canada and a further eight scholarships are available to North American students studying in the UK.The value of each scholarship is £500 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university. Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant
There are forty-five $1,000 grants awarded each year to help support undergraduate study abroad. The grant is open to Phi Kappa Phi members, as well as non-members, in all fields of study. Student must attend an institution with a Phi Kappa Phi chapter, have a cumulative GPA of 3.5+ and have completed a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 90 credit hours. Study Abroad program must commence in May and end in June of the following year.

Applicants must submit a letter of acceptance into the study abroad program and have at least two semesters remaining at their home institution after completing the study abroad program.

John T. Petters Foundation Scholarships
The John T. Petters Foundation honors the life of John Petters. While a junior at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, he tragically lost his life in Florence, Italy in March 2004. John's dream of helping deserving students study abroad is realized through the Foundation. Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students demonstrating financial need in addition to John's traits of leadership, character, intellectual strength and a sincere passion to gain an international perspective. The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF)

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers a competition for awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for US undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. www.iie.org/programs/gilman/index.html

The Order Sons of Italy in America Scholarships
A full tuition scholarship granted to qualified Italian-American undergraduates for one academic year at John Cabot University in Rome.
