Re-entry Conferences

Once you have returned home from studying abroad with SAI, you may find yourself looking for new ideas and resources for pursuing your own passions as a global citizen. There are great opportunities available to help you reflect on your experience and apply it to your future education and career path. Regardless of where you call home in the US, you will find “re-entry” conferences offered close by.

These events are meant to provide you with an opportunity to network and gather resources from professionals in international education. Re-entry conferences include tips and tools designed to guide you toward using your experiences abroad in the future. You can expect information and resources on embracing the return to your home culture (sometimes called “reverse culture shock”); exploring further international work, volunteering or graduate school; utilizing lessons from abroad in your career development.

Some larger US campuses will have their own re-entry event just for their students. You may also want to consider attending a regional event held in different locations around the country. Depending on what part of the country you live in, these events occur at least once a year and in some cases, on a bi annual basis. Your home campus study abroad office is a good place to begin your search for what is available nearby. If you do not find what you are looking for there, you can perform a simple internet search with key words “reentry, study abroad, conference.”

Most of these conferences are not free and in that case SAI is happy to cover the cost of your registration. If the event you would like to attend requires a fee, contact your former SAI Admissions Counselor in California with the conference details and SAI will send a check to the conference organizers to pay your fee. SAI understands the study abroad experience is often a life-altering one and we encourage you to participate in a re-entry conference to fully benefit from your time abroad.
