PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Study Abroad Italy offers two academic study options (program costs can be found here: Fall 2012 & Spring 2013):

1.  Free Elective Program: In the Fall semester (September-December, 15 weeks) and in the Spring semester (January-May, 15 weeks) students may elect to undertake a course load of 12 to 17 credits (or four to five classes) chosen from the published class schedules. Applicants are welcome to attend one semester or the entire academic year. Semester Students are not required to enroll in Italian language courses. The distribution of teaching contact hours between in-class instruction and outside activities (field trips, etc.) varies from course to course.

2. Global Leaders Certificate Semester Program: In the Fall semester (September-December, 15 weeks) and in the Spring semester (January-May, 15 weeks), students may choose 12 – 15 credits (4-5 courses) that includes at least one designated global awareness course.  Students will work with the SAI admissions counselor to select  the global awareness course, participate in three special seminars or meetings during the semester and engage in community service for a minimum of 15 hours.   The Global Leaders Certificate enhances leadership skills by helping students to understand themselves in relationship to the world community. Both the academic and service components enable students to identify economic, political and cultural forces that shape the global market and influence global leadership.
