Student Visas
In accordance with Italian law all students studying in Italy for 90 days or more are required to obtain a Student Visa. It is no longer necessary for US students studying for LESS than 90 days to obtain a visa. SAI provides Student Visa Consulting for all our students. This is included in all our programs.
Obtaining a Student Visa may be a timely process therefore the application should be started as early as possible. Upon acceptance into the program, each student should immediately print the SAI Student Visa Application Guidelines and the appropriate Consulate Visa Application from the links below.
SAI is able to process Student Visas with the following US Italian Consulates: Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Philadelphia. You will not need to make a trip to the Consulate. We will take care of everything! The cost of this optional service is $250.
If you fall under the San Francisco Italian Consulate, regrettably, you must appear in person at the Consulate or one of their Honorary or Vice Consulates. They are requiring a personal appearance of all students studying in Italy.
PLEASE NOTE: if you are not using SAI Housing you, unfortunately, will not be able to take advantage of SAI Student Visa Processing. SAI can provide you with Student Visa Consultation, free of charge. The Italian Consulate will be requiring an additional document from you, showing proof of housing during your time in Italy, for example a signed lease agreement, pre-paid hotel vouchers, etc. You will need to appear in person at the Consulate with this document as well as the remaining documents and student visa application.
We do highly recommend students process through SAI. This will help to avoid multiple visits to the consulate due to incomplete and incorrect visa applications. Remember, with SAI Processing, the student will not have to go to the Consulate in person. If you do decide to apply on your own, be aware that SAI may not be able to help or assist if complications occur with the Consulate.
Please contact our office if you must obtain your Student Visa yourself. We will mail the necessary 3 visa letters to complete your application.
Non US Citizens and students not residing in the US should contact their nearest Italian Consulate and follow their directions for obtaining a Student Visa. You will meet with them in person to apply for your student visa.
