NABA’s 4 week summer programs offer students a synthesis of NABA expertise in the design fields under the guidance of, and collaboration with, professionals in the field. Students enroll in two back-to-back 2 week courses, each worth 3 credits. SAI offers two 4 week summer programs at NABA, each with different start dates and course options: Summer I and Summer II.

Students will acquire the basic skills needed to coordinate and develop a new luxury accessories brand and will get acquainted with the technical methodology to make shoes.
Students will be given an overview of the Italian Fashion System and will learn to do fashion sketches, to carry out researches and to use them to develop a fashion collection.
Students will learn and implement the observation, research and analysis techniques related to cool hunting specifically focusing on Milan.
They will be given an overview of the Italian Fashion System and will be stimulated to develop their ideas and their potential to the full.
They will learn how to innovatively apply trend skills to interpret the personality of a client and his/her lifestyle, create a style for a collection look for a fashion magazine and propose a new image through clothing, accessories, photos and location combinations
Students will experience the excitement of making a photo-shooting in a real working environment: with live models, on location and in a professional studio.
Personal research and observation will be used to analyze contemporary advertising vehicles for the promotion of a fashion product for a targeted consumer
Students will be introduced to the analysis of the elements of the space, and will have the opportunity to focus specifically on interior design, and delve into intensive project works.
Lifestyle, art and design research in Milan will be used by students to develop an interior space plan.
Students will have the chance to analyze contemporary interior spaces through observation based on personal research. They will develop a professional designers attitude searching for materials as a source for inspiration through the city exploration.
The project work will be geared toward the creation of a physical model of interior layout, using only regenerated or discarded materials.
The course will range from the basics of optics and light (aperture, shutter speed, exposure), working procedures and photographic methods to a more in depth journey through the language (composition techniques).
Also image processing in Photoshop and output techniques will be covered during the course.
Students will work in small groups, in an open discussion environment, developing their creative process from the idea to a final presentation. The final result will be presented, simulating a small exhibition, with a model and a short story in digital format.
Specific workshops focused on materials, history of design and on the biography of an object will expose students to multiple possible approaches.
Alternating theory and practice, the course will show different techniques, processes and approaches.
Courses & Registration
NABA summer courses run Monday – Friday between 10:00am and 4:00pm. Students participate in 1 course per two week section of the program. Students complete their course registration during the SAI application process by selecting their primary course choice for section 1 and section 2 as well as required alternate courses for each two week section. Course schedules are confirmed 4 weeks prior to the program start.

Students who are accepted and submit SAI deposits after this date will have an amended pay schedule. Either 50% or 100% of Program Fee will be due within 5 business days, based on the date of acceptance.

||Arrival & Housing Check-in
Students arrive into the Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) or Milan Linate Airport (LIN). SAI airport pickup is provided between 10:00am and 3:00pm, and students are transferred to SAI housing.

Pre-departure and Re-entry services
SAI offers activities, at no extra cost, for students to get to know their community, city and country. Following is a sample of the activities included in this program. Please note that actual activities may differ.
SAI welcomes students to Milan with aperitivi at one of the hidden and local trendy spots in the Naviglio district.
Duomo Rooftop and Milan Walking Tour
Students admire the architecture of the spire-laden Duomo up close as they walk among the buttresses and statues and enjoy a panoramic view of the city from the rooftop. Following the tour, the group discovers the fashion district including the Galleria, Montenapoleone and La Scala.
Lake Como Day Trip
Students take a break from the bustling city of Milan and head to nearby Lake Como, which has been a popular retreat for the wealthy since Roman times. The group takes in the beautiful scenery on a boat ride backdropped by the snow-capped Alps, and then takes the funicular for a beautiful view of the lake and Bergamo Alps.
Students celebrate the end of a successful term abroad and say their goodbyes over a delicious Italian meal.
Standard Housing: Student apartment
SAI student apartments are convenient, clean, and well equipped, with shared occupancy bedrooms (upgrade to private bedroom available). Typical residences house 2 – 8 students and contain a combination of private and shared bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and living areas. Furnishings, a washing machine, basic kitchen supplies, bed linens and towels are provided. All apartments are equipped with wireless internet. SAI on-site staff is available to respond to any maintenance needs that may arise.
Passports should be valid for 3 months after planned departure from Italy.
In accordance with Italian law U.S. students studying in Italy for 90 days or more are required to obtain a student visa. Therefore all U.S. students do not require a student visa for this program. Non-US nationals should consult their local Consulate for information on student visa requirements.
