My Favorite Pass-Times in Sorrento Italy

As a student studying abroad in Sorrento, Italy, it is important to know all the fun spots to relax, get food, or have a fun time. I am living in a student apartment, so everyday I walk through the city to get to Sant’Anna, and this has been super helpful in finding hidden spots!

Stunning swimming hole at Bagni Regina Giovanna

If you are looking to be immersed in the local culture, the El Giardino Mediterraneo is for you! This is a one minute walk from my apartment, and a 10-15 minute walk from Sant’Anna. This is a cafe complete with outdoor seating and all of the pastries you could ever need. It is a local spot that Sorrento residents will stop by in the morning to get their espressos and socialize with their friends. I am always greeted by a friendly, “Ciao, buongiorno!” by the workers behind the counter. Here, you can get and amazing cappuccino and croissant for only 3 euro total! After coming here everyday, I am unable to buy a croissant from anywhere else, because these truly are the best. This is one of my favorite spots to sit for long hours and get work done in the garden, or to simply have a coffee date with a friend. Not only is this place great for coffee, but they are open all day and it is perfect for an aperitivo. I could not recommend this place more.

If you are looking for an excursion into nature, then Bagni Regina Giovanna is an amazing hike with stunning views, just a 30 minute hike from Sant’Anna. This was one of my favorite places to go when Sorrento was less busy, because you could enjoy the views, without the crowds. Here you will be able to see ancient ruins, and crystal blue waters. There is a lovely swimming hole that you can access by stairs, or you can spend your time tanning on the rocks and enjoying the lovely views of Mount Vesuvius. This is a great activity to do with friends. Bring a speaker and a sandwich and you could stay here for hours.

Sandwich from A’Marenna

Finally, I need to take some time to tell you about the best sandwich shop I have ever been to. A’Marenna is just a 10 minute walk from the school and they have a wide variety of authentic sandwiches to choose from. This place is perfect if you are looking for a quick lunch between classes, or an easy dinner to pick up on the way home. The staff are extremely friendly and sometimes you may even find them doing karaoke! I cannot recommend this shop enough. If you end up going, I highly recommend the “Annare” which is prosciutto, burrata, truffle palo, cherry tomatoes, and fresh greens. Trust me, you will not want to skip this.

Overall, there are many amazing spots to spend your time in Sorrento. The best way to find them is taking time to walk around and you will find so many hidden gems. Whether it is coffee with friends, stunning hikes, or grabbing a quick bite there are so many places you will not want to miss. My best advice is to slow down, enjoy every moment, and try to fully embrace the local lifestyle.
