Outside of the tourist crowds and hot weather, there is something so undeniably romantic about visiting Europe in the summertime. Perhaps it harkens to an idealized version of the travel experiences we absorb through media growing up. The vision of warm Tuscan breezes, or vibrant glittering nights strolling the streets of Paris, or overlooking the Amalfi coast from a balcony in Southern Italy, eating tapas on a balmy evening in Barcelona… it feels as though the landscape and cities come alive within Europe during the dreamy summer months, buzzing excitedly with endless possibilities of adventure. While Italy, France and Spain have intrigue, beauty, and unending experiences to offer no matter the season, it is my belief that, given the opportunity, everyone should travel to these wonderful countries during summertime at least once in their lives. And, while exploring these places, why not make the experience extra special by adding education into the mix?
Summer study abroad programs are becoming increasingly popular. With programs ranging from 2 to 12 weeks, we have a landslide of options spanning three countries, nine cities, and more than a handful of universities. We even have programs that take you to multiple cities, and countries over the course of a few weeks. Summer programs cover such an extensive amount of subject matter that can be applicable to most majors, minors, or electives. There is literally something for everyone, including price and schedule!
In this blog, I am going to highlight a few of our exciting new programs available for the first time, starting this summer. If you are unsure of where to start, here is an entire list of the areas of study we offer at SAI. In the meantime, let’s take you on a brief journey through a few of our newest summer programs…

Have you ever dreamed of visiting islands in the Mediterranean? Take this as your sign to explore the gorgeous island of Sicily at our partnered university MADE, a school of Arts and Sciences located in the beautiful city of Syracuse. One of the many reasons this school stands out is due to the fact that learning takes place inside and outside of the classroom. Using the island as a tool for education, MADE prides itself on providing students with unique hands-on experiential learning through field studies, projects, and instructional visits. Work with the ancient land, local professionals, and culture, connect and integrate with the community while learning art, anthropology, and a plethora of sciences. Ask anyone who has ever traveled to Sicily; it is truly one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Next, let’s take a visit to the singular City of Lights, also known as Paris, where we have two new programs rolling out this Summer. Looking to learn French in a fully immersive setting? Look no further. Institut Catholique de Paris (ICP) summer courses are tailor made for those who want to expand their knowledge on the language and culture of France. With the university located in the heart of the city, this program is not only designed to sharpen students’ language proficiency, but to also fully immerse each individual in the richness of Parisian accomplishment.
While Paris is known as a longstanding staple amongst houses of fashion, we’re excited to offer a course that links this legendary European city to another with a shared sense of style- Florence! The Sup de Luxe + Polimoda program starts off with two weeks on campus in Paris with a diverse student body from over 70 countries around the world, fostering global perspectives on luxury business practices in a hands-on setting. Once you have completed your time at Sup de Luxe, you will find your way to Polimoda in Florence, an institution committed to educating eager students in the ways of high-end apparel design, garment-making, footwear, accessories and of course, leather production. Studying at two top fashion schools in one summer is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.

For our final exploration, we’re going to shift gears educationally. This summer, SAI launched internships in six different cities across Spain and Italy. If you are looking to gain work experience as well as college credit, look no further! What’s beautiful about an internship is that no matter which city you choose, it can be catered to your specific interests, degree, or whatever educational pursuits you are looking for.
Here’s an example of the internship opportunities we offer:
- Accounting
- Architecture
- Art
- Communications
- Culinary Arts
- Design
- Education
- Event Planning
- Fashion Design
- Finance
- Geology
- Graphic Design
- Information Technology
- Journalism
- Marketing
- Psychology
- Sciences
- Social Services
- Tourism
- And more!
Like traditional education, partaking in an internship abroad can be a life-changing experience, one that is priceless for your resume.
I hope that this blog has inspired you to make whatever dreams you’ve had about traveling with purpose during the magnificent season of summer. Speaking from personal experience, I will never forget my most treasured moments from spending time abroad during the summer months: walking the warm streets of Florence in search of the perfect aperitivo, or spreading out a picnic of cheese, fruit and a fresh baguette at a lush park overlooking the city in Paris with friends, and swimming in the salty blue Mediterranean waters off the coast of Sicily during the oh so sweet summertime – and neither will you!
