Cinque Terre

When we say Cinque Terre we refer to a steep and rugged coastal area in Liguria which includes five picturesque villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore, a network of hiking trails and other places of art, cultural and natural interest.

Inhabited since the 11th century, this area is now a National Park and it has become one of the most popular Italian tourist destinations. Access to Cinque Terre is possible via train, ferry, bus and car, although parking can be a nightmare!

Cinque Terre can be visited by train or bus by buying the Cinque Terre Card which allows visitors to hop on and off trains and buses going to Cinque Terre. The card has also a “plus” version which includes access to the “Via dell’Amore” trail.

Throughout the day and the year, numerous trains along the Genoa-Pisa line depart from La Spezia Central Station: in less than 10 minutes, this fast and non-stop service reaches Riomaggiore, the first of the 5 Cinque Terre villages encountered when traveling from La Spezia. Because of the number of trains, as well as the intense flow of tourists and residents who cross the Riomaggiore – Monterosso stretch daily, this Trenitalia service is comparable to a large city’s urban transport network.

ATC is the local bus company that provides transportation between the Cinque Terre towns. The cost of the ticket is included in the Cinque Terre Card. You can find a detailed schedule here.

Regular ferry rides run between La Spezia and Levanto, stopping in the main villages except Corniglia which is perched 100 meters above the sea.
