Program Overview

Students in SA’s 10 week summer program complete two back-to-back 5 week programs, enrolling in a total of 2 to 4 elective courses awarding 6 – 13 credits. All courses weave Mediterranean culture, history and arts into them, taking advantage of the school’s location on southern Italy’s coast. Students in this program also have the option to complete a part-time summer internship for 3 credits alongside elective courses.

Courses at Sant’Anna are designed to offer a rich and well-rounded education that focuses on the Mediterranean region, blending classroom learning with hands-on experiences.

The SA Summer III program is offered as a combination of two back-to-back 5 week sessions: Summer I and Summer II. Students select 1 or 2 elective courses per 5-week session, for a total of 2 – 4 courses and 6 – 13 US credits. Courses are held Monday through Friday, and some courses include required field trips.

SAI Housing

Standard Housing:
Student Apartment | shared bedroom

SAI student apartments offer a comfortable, community-focused living experience in fully equipped spaces. Apartments typically house 2 – 8 students and feature a mix of shared-occupancy and private bedrooms, along with kitchen, bathroom, and a common area. Each unit is move-in ready with essential furnishings, a washing machine, basic kitchen supplies, bed linens, towels, and wireless internet. Housing is arranged as female, male, and, in select locations, gender-inclusive.

Standard Housing:
On-Campus Dorm | shared bedroom

The on-campus dorm is conveniently located in the upper floors of the Sant’Anna Institute campus building, hosting students in a combination of shared and private bedrooms. Shared bedrooms can be double or triple and all bedrooms include an en-suite bathroom. Dorm rooms are equipped with basic furniture, towels and bed linens, wireless Internet, and air conditioning. Students have access to a large common kitchen, comfortable common areas, and coin operated washing machines.

Optional Housing:
Student Apartment | private bedroom

Private bedrooms in student apartments offer a private bedroom with a shared bathroom. SAI student apartments offer a comfortable, community-focused living experience in fully equipped spaces. Apartments typically house 2 – 8 students and feature a mix of shared-occupancy and private bedrooms, along with kitchen, bathroom, and a common area. Each unit is move-in ready with essential furnishings, a washing machine, basic kitchen supplies, bed linens, towels, and wireless internet. Housing is arranged as female, male, and, in select locations, gender-inclusive. SAI’s on-site staff are available to promptly assist with any maintenance needs throughout the program.

On-Campus Dorm | private bedroom

Students can request a private room in the on-campus dorm. The on-campus dorm is conveniently located in the upper floors of the Sant’Anna Institute campus building, hosting students in a combination of shared and private bedrooms. All bedrooms include an en-suite bathroom. Dorm rooms are equipped with basic furniture, towels and bed linens, wireless Internet, and air conditioning. Students have access to a large common kitchen, comfortable common areas, and coin operated washing machines.

Optional Housing:
Off-Campus Dorm | shared bedroom

Students choosing the off-campus dorm option will be placed in a shared bedroom (double, triple, or quad) in a student dorm located approximately 20 minutes from campus. This housing option does not include access to a kitchen, but includes 34 breakfasts and 17 dinners served by the dorm’s cafeteria (vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options available) with the option to purchase additional meal vouchers as needed.

Optional Housing:
Family Homestay | private or shared bedroom

Students choosing the family homestay option will be placed with a local family, which could be an older married couple or a family with children. Homestay families are typically within a short walking distance to the school. The homestay option includes breakfast and dinner 7 days a week in a shared or private bedroom.

Course Registration

Students complete course registration for their Summer I and Summer II courses through their Sant’Anna Institute portal account on a specific date.

Internships

Summer students participating in the 5 week program can apply for a part-time 3 credit internship to be completed as part of the 3 credit program option. Students are placed in internships that complement their major or minor, and are supported by ongoing reflective coursework. At the completion of the internship students produce an analytical paper that synthesizes what they have learned. Please note that there is an additional fee for completing an internship. Part-Time Internship Application Requirements
Students wishing to participate in a part-time 3 credit internship during their program should select the Internship program add-on at application, and complete the following additional application items:

SA internship application; emailed once the SAI application is received.
Resume and cover letter
2 letters of recommendation (professional or academic)

SAI Viva Experience

SAI offers all students the Viva Experience: frequent cultural activities, at no extra cost, for participants to get to know their community, city and country. Following is a sample of the activities included in this program. Please note that actual activities may differ.

Student Visas
In accordance with Italian law, U.S. students studying in Italy for 90 days or less are not required to obtain a student visa. Therefore all U.S. students do not require a student visa for this program (nor can they apply for one). Non-US nationals should consult their local Consulate for information on student visa requirements.
