Program Overview

SAI’s 3 week Maymester program, hosted by Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento, invites students to complete one 3 credit course while experiencing the true spirit of local life in Sorrento. Students choose one course from available Italian language levels, History of the Mafia, History of Italian Cinema, or Intro to Marine Biology. Students have access to Sant’Anna Institute’s full suite of services and facilities throughout their time in Sorrento.

Academics

Courses at Sant’Anna are designed to offer a rich and well-rounded education that focuses on the Mediterranean region, blending classroom learning with hands-on experiences.

Students in the Maymester program select one 3 credit course to complete over the 3 week program. Courses are held Monday through Friday, and some select courses include required field trips.

SAI student apartments offer a comfortable, community-focused living experience in fully equipped spaces. Apartments typically house 2 – 8 students and feature a mix of shared-occupancy and private bedrooms, along with kitchen, bathroom, and a common area. Each unit is move-in ready with essential furnishings, a washing machine, basic kitchen supplies, bed linens, towels, and wireless internet. Housing is arranged as female, male, and, in select locations, gender-inclusive. SAI’s on-site staff are available to promptly assist with any maintenance needs throughout the program.

 

On-campus dorm shared bedroom

The on-campus dorm is conveniently located in the upper floors of the Sant’Anna Institute campus building, hosting students in a combination of shared and private bedrooms. Shared bedrooms can be double or triple and all bedrooms include an en-suite bathroom. Dorm rooms are equipped with basic furniture, towels and bed linens, wireless Internet, and air conditioning. Students have access to a large common kitchen, comfortable common areas, and coin operated washing machines.

Private bedrooms in student apartments offer a private bedroom with a shared bathroom. SAI student apartments offer a comfortable, community-focused living experience in fully equipped spaces. Students can request a private room in the on-campus dorm. Students choosing the off-campus dorm option will be placed in a shared bedroom (double, triple, or quad) in a student dorm located approximately 20 minutes from campus. This housing option does not include access to a kitchen, but includes 34 breakfasts and 17 dinners served by the dorm’s cafeteria (vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options available) with the option to purchase additional meal vouchers as needed.

 

SAI Viva Experience

SAI offers all students the Viva Experience: frequent cultural activities, at no extra cost, for participants to get to know their community, city and country. Following is a sample of the activities included in this program. Please note that actual activities may differ.

Passports should be valid for at least 3 months after planned departure from Europe.

Student Visas
In accordance with Italian law, U.S. students studying in Italy for 90 days or less are not required to obtain a student visa. Therefore all U.S. students do not require a student visa for this program (nor can they apply for one). Non-US nationals should consult their local Consulate for information on student visa requirements.
