SAI is thrilled to announce the launch of new programs in two destination cities: Barcelona, Spain and Paris, France! In keeping with SAI’s tradition of excellence, our new partner schools have been selected for their creativity, academic excellence and innovative approaches to instruction. The full range of SAI student services are extended to Barcelona and Paris, including pre-departure advising, enrollment in an academic course of study, airport pick up, safe and reliable housing, support from an on-site Program Coordinator and staff, and a rich variety of cultural events/excursions. All students receive U.S. credits.

These new programs begin in Summer 2014.

Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is a vibrant global center for art and design that has historically embraced innovation and inspired creativity. The city has been home to some of the greatest creative minds in contemporary history, including Antonio Gaudi, Joan Miro’, and Pablo Picasso. Each of these visionaries has left an indelible mark on Barcelona that has contributed to the city’s great cultural heritage. Characterized by its openness to the world, Barcelona continues to be a city imbued with dynamic, cosmopolitan energy.

SAI Host School:  Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), founded in 1968, now offers courses taught in English and Spanish. UAB is a young, dynamic institution, and is widely regarded as one of the finest universities in Spain, both for the quality of its teaching staff and for its excellent research. Roughly 40,000 students attend the main campus in the Bellaterra section of Barcelona, though UAB also has two smaller satellite campuses in the city center, where the language and culture study abroad programs reside. Students may choose to attend either location, based on program preference.

SAI offers Summer Programs (6 – 9 credits) and Semester Programs (12 – 15 credits) at UAB.

Students choose between two semester program options:

  • The Pre-Established Program (12 – 15 credits)
  • The Regular Studies Program (12 – 15 credits)

The Pre-Established Program is designed for international students who wish to spend one or two semesters in Barcelona taking Spanish language and a series of other subjects in Social Sciences, Humanities and Economics. All subjects are taught in English or Spanish and students can choose from a wide range of electives.

The Regular Studies Program integrates SAI students with the Spanish university population on the school’s main campus. Rather than being a separate study abroad program, Regular Studies places students in classes alongside undergraduate students in degree programs at the university. Students select courses from an extensive catalog, taught in either Spanish or English for a total of 12-15 credits.  This option is most appropriate for highly motivated students with a high level of proficiency in Spanish.
